The Queen of the Classic Murder Mystery

Margery Allingham was one of the four great ‘Queens of Crime’ from the Golden Age of Detective Fiction, alongside Agatha Christie, Dorothy L Sayers and Ngaio Marsh. In her time, she sold more copies of her books than Christie. Allingham is best remembered for her golden age detective stories, featuring gentleman sleuth Albert Campion, although her work spans multiple genres, from thriller and adventure, to romance and comedy. Allingham published across six decades of momentous global upheaval during the 20th Century and these times of change are reflected in the depth of her work.

“Margery Allingham stands out like a shining light. And she has another quality, not usually associated with crime stories, elegance.”

– Agatha Christie
